In -25 degree cold, a test was carried out to open the frozen flat hatch in winter, which in the fall of 2022 was equipped with a de-icing system based on Linnovation's patented technology.
The purpose of the test was:
- To investigate the ice situation at the two hatches at one of the Kvistforsen dams, one equipped with a de-icing system from Linnovation and the other completely without heating.
- Opening the flat hatch under the most difficult temperature conditions imaginable (-25 to -30 degrees)
- To gain an understanding of whether the selected periodic heating cycle for the hatch is sufficient or if it needs to be changed
Even though the ice covering the hatch extended almost three meters underwater and was approximately 30 to 40 cm thick, the hatch could be opened and closed without any problems.
